EMDR Intensives – for those who want to accelerate their healing or struggle with phobias.

What is trauma?

Trauma is an emotional wound that lingers long after the initial experience has passed. It’s like a shadow that follows us, affecting our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in profound ways. Trauma can stem from a wide range of events, such as accidents, abuse, loss, or even ongoing stress. It’s like a heavy backpack we carry, filled with painful memories and unresolved feelings that can make us feel stuck or overwhelmed

What is EMDR?

EMDR helps us work through negative core beliefs and associated events/ memories along with the feelings, symptoms and body sensations experienced at the time. You will process the most traumatic memories in a safe, therapeutic environment with a trained professional. Intensives will allow you to overcome the challenges trauma creates much quicker than traditional talk therapy.

For trauma treatment, Intensives are most helpful for single incident traumatic events such as sudden loss, car accidents, assault, birth trauma, witnessing or experiencing violent crime, and natural disaster.

For phobias, intensives are helpful for performance anxiety, fear of flying, fear of needles, or animals, i.e. spiders, snakes, etc.

I offer 1 Day and 2 Day Intensives as well as adjunct EMDR 90-minute sessions.. 3 Day Intensives are limited in availability and upon request only.

Is an EMDR Intensive right for you?

Intensives are an effective, life-changing process for many. This may work for you if –

  • You are feeling triggered and overwhelmed most of the time.
  • You feel like you spend most of your time between therapy sessions in survival mode.
  • You have done a lot of talk therapy, know your stuck points and want to heal from your trauma.
  • You are one of the millions of people who suffer from performance anxiety, also known as stage fright. Athletes, musicians, actors, and public speakers often suffer from this most commonly documented disorder among all social phobias.

Why an intensive instead of a normal 45-50-minute psychotherapy session?

EMDR intensives allow the opportunity to progress through your symptoms in a more succinct and focused way without the interruption of a 50-minute session. An intensive format may decrease overall treatment time because of time not spent on: a) checking in at the beginning of each session, b) addressing current crises and concerns, c) focusing on stabilizing and coping skills that the client won’t need after healing, or d) assisting the client in regaining composure at the end of the session.

Intensives are customized treatment plans that give clients faster access to therapy services and are designed to support quicker symptom relief. This form of therapy gives you access to select spots, and can eliminate weeks or months of living with trauma symptoms, or assist in decreasing performance anxiety.

Research on Intensive EMDR Therapy Is Positive

Intensive application of trauma-focused therapy seems to be well tolerated in patients with PTSD, enabling faster symptom reduction with similar, or even better, results, while reducing the risk that patients drop out prematurely.

The economy is compelling: even compared to other trauma therapy, the intensive format may decrease treatment time, because of time not spent on a) checking in at the beginning of each session, b) addressing current crises and concerns, c) focusing on stabilizing and coping skills that the client won’t need after trauma healing, or d) assisting the client in regaining composure at the end of the session.
